The EPC approach

The combined effect of EPC's expertise, products and services results in a flexible and comprehensive package of support for organisations as they strive to increase their resilience to disruption and develop the confidence and capabilities required to improve their resilience. We also help them to understand the dynamic nature of their business and how they can adapt (and continue to adapt) to sudden and significant changes in the external environment.

Within the context of organisational resilience, we combine our expertise to deliver the support our clients' need. Irrespective of the requirement, we would recommend an initial base-line review to determine where, on the EPC resilience scale, the organisation currently sits.  The review is a structured enquiry and evidence gathering exercise which will deliver an accurate assessment of the organisation's position in terms of resilience. From here, we help develop action plans to help organisations achieve the next or higher level on the maturity scale.

So what is organisational resilience?

Organisational resilience is defined as 'the ability of an organisation to anticipate, prepare for, respond and adapt to incremental change and sudden disruptions in order to survive and prosper.' - Source: British Standard BS65000.

(EPC contributed to the authorship of the Guidance on Organisational Resilience (BS65000) which was published by our parent organisation, the Cabinet Office Civil Contingencies Secretariat).

Resilience is a strategic objective that helps organisations to survive and prosper and extends way beyond business continuity or disaster recovery. It is best described as a dynamic and relative condition, not a state, as organisations need to be flexible and more adaptive to change. Those organisations that are highly resilient are therefore stronger, more flexible and agile. This gives them a sustainable competitive advantage over those who are less resilient.

To achieve resilience, organisations need to be managed coherently, to break down silos, achieve combined effect from a range of activity and unity of purpose from the complete range of protective activities.  However, organisations that are highly resilient on one area may still be vulnerable in another.

We offer a wide range of services and expertise that can help organisations assess their resilience, put measures in place to improve resilience and formulate plans to help them become more adaptive. Our approach is founded on the principles set out in the above standard (BS65000) and is based on helping organisations move up the 'maturity scale' defined therein.
